Ashleigh Banfield, a host on NewsNation, ran a piece on the Canton, Massachusetts Police Department that the DOJ Public Integrity Unit needs to take a look at.
The piece began with the case of a woman charged with Murder in the death of her Boston Police officer boyfriend. In her defense, she claimed that the Canton Police conspired to blame her for a death they caused. The case resulted in a hung jury and a mistrial.
She continued with a second case that is even more disturbing. The death of a 23 year old pregnant woman as a suicide. The woman was a police explorer for the agency when she was 15 and purportedly had a sexual relationship with at least one working officer. She told friends that the married cop was the father of her child.
Dr. Michael Baden, the pathologist who was also involved in the O. J. Simpson case, did a secondary autopsy and determined that the woman had a broken highway bone , which is inconsistent with a hanging. Dr. Baden claims that this is a homicide.
Whatever the facts of this case are, it deserves a look from the DOJ Public Integrity Section because of the nature of the alleged conduct. Sexual conduct with a subordinate constitutes rape in many states because consent is not voluntary. The offender is armed with a firearm and holds a position of power over the victim.
This is not about the pro or anti police viewpoints. This is about finding out the truth of this case and determining whether Federal law has been broken under USC 1983.
This article does not purport to claim that the allegations made are true, but it does raise questions which deserve an investigation by an independent agency.
