On Friday, three heroes were laid to rest after being shot and killed in the line of duty. One was a Police Commander from Chicago PD and two Westerville, Ohio officers. The interesting part of the story is that two of the three could be at home enjoying drawing their pension, but chose to continue their service to their communities. Each had thirty years of service and were eligible for retirement.
Westerville, Ohio is a City of forty thousand and is a northern suburb of Columbus. It is estimated that three thousand police vehicles were in the procession that passed through the downtown area from all over the United States. The streets were lined with people who wanted to pay their respect to the heroes. They waved American flags and stood with their hands over their heart. Many had tears in their eyes over men they had never met. It is living proof that the silent majority clearly appreciates the service that law enforcement officers provide on a daily basis. The service overflowed the large church and had a rider less horse, a twenty-one gun salute, and a helicopter flyover with one helicopter peeling off to simulate the missing man formation.
The daily news shows the vocal majority who demean and denigrate police officers, but the silent majority spoke today.
